Congress spokesperson hits out at Kejriwal calling it a "publicity stunt"

After a fresh volley of allegations by India Against Corruption’s Arvind Kejriwal, the Congress found itself in a corner trying to deflect the charges even as the Opposition BJP hit out at the Congress and demanded a comprehensive probe into the dealings between Vadra, the Congress government in Haryana and realty giant DLF.
Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi speaking to reporters minutes after Kejriwal’s fresh allegations dismissed it all as a “publicity stunt before the media.” He even went onto question the authenticity of the documents on the basis of which Kejriwal had leveled the charges. “If they (IAC) actually wanted to get at the details, why did they not approach the Haryana government. If they want a ‘white paper’ on the whole issue, they have to approach the authorities and not make tall claims before the media,” said Alvi.
The Congress was left fumbling for answers when it was pointed out that Finance minister P. Chidambaram had rejected any suggestions for a probe saying it was a dealing between two individuals.
Meanwhile, Nirmala Sitharaman of the BJP trained guns on the Congress, demanding a “comprehensive investigation” against Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Sitharaman said, “If there is nothing wrong in the dealings between Vadra, Haryana government and DLF then what is the worry? Congress should allow a fair investigation but Finance minister P Chidambaram has come out to defend Vadra.”
She questioned, “When investigations can happen against YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy and DMK’s Kanimozhi, why is there no investigation against Robert Vadra? The Congress party has been involved in the Commonwealth Games scam, 2G spectrum allocation scam, coal block allocation and now there are serious allegations against a family member of the Congress President.”
Pointing out the lack of transparency in the whole process she pointed out that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was the coal minister when coal blocks were allocated and now it was the CBI which is investigating the case and the CBI reports to the Prime Minister.
“The Congress party is not going to correct its course. We want fair probe in the allegations,” she said.
Earlier in the day HRD minister Kapil Sibal had trashed the charges being made by Kejriwal as it "daily phenomena". "Allegations are happening 24x7. It is a daily phenomena just like 24x7 television news channels", he told the media.
