The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning a sustained attack on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government during the winter session of Parliament on issues like corruption in Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects and saffron terrorism. In the previous session also, BJP cornered the government on the issue of price rise. The government would need BJP’s support to pass crucial bills during the coming session of Parliament.
Seniors BJP leaders said the five most important issues that the party would raise in Parliament were corruption in CWG projects, the recent Adarsh Society scam in which rights of war widows were denied by the Maharashtra government, the 3G auction scam, saffron terrorism, and the continuing problems in Jammu and Kashmir and the brief given to the three interlocutors to organise discussions in the troubled state.
“Most senior leaders of Congress, especially Sonia Gandhi, have remained silent on the issue of corruption. We will try to get an answer in the upcoming winter session of Parliament from Congress leaders. We want to know if the Congress party is indifferent to issues related to corruption,” said a senior BJP leader.
Sources in the party said though multiple organisations were carrying out investigations into the CWG scam, but the Congress party had so far remained silent on the issue. They said the Shunglu committee, appointed by the prime minister, didn’t have adequate powers to take action against corrupt politicians of Congress involved in the scam.
“Though the Congress party has attacked the BJP and RSS for having terror links, the fact is that former Congress minister Mohammed Surti and another corporator in Gujarat were convicted of terror charges. The Congress party has to answer these questions,” said the BJP member.
