Unfazed by the attack over the hate speeches of Varun Gandhi, BJP today said it will stand by him "politically and legally".
Party president Rajnath Singh, who came here and met Gandhi, jailed under NSA for his anti-Muslim speeches, told reporters that "BJP will not keep quite. It will stand by Varun Gandhi both politically and legally as he is being "harassed" for political reasons."
Asked whether the BJP was trying to get political mileage out of the issue, Singh shot back saying "do not forget that he is a BJP candidate".
On being asked whether there is any differences of opinion between him and L K Advani on the issue, Singh said there is no such differences and the BJP was opposing the harassment meted out to Gandhi.
"The whole country knows that he is being harassed. We are opposing the harassment on him," Singh said.
