Nobel laureate Douglas D Osheroff awarded the B M Birla Science Prize to 14 young scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology, here on Monday.
 
The B M Birla Science Prize is in recognition of the contributions of young Indian achievers in India in their respective fields and carries a prize money of Rs 1 lakh.
 
Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, bestowed Douglas D Osheroff with B M Birla Science Centre's Lifetime Achievement in Science Award on the occasion.
 
Osheroff, a professor at Stanford University, also delivered the B M Birla Memorial Lecture "� The nature of discovery in Physics "� on the recent discoveries in physics.
