The BSF today sounded a high alert along the 2,216-km international border between West Bengal and Bangladesh following today's rebellion in Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in the neighbouring country.
"New Delhi has asked the BSF to be on high alert on our international border and district magistrates and police officers have been asked to maintain a state of alertness in bordering districts," Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said.
The situation arising out of the rebellion by the para-military force in Bangladesh prompted Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee to hold a high-level meeting at Writers' Buildings.
Sen said, "We are yet to ascertain the actual situation in Bangladesh. Nothing is confirmed. BDR has reportedly raised a banner of revolt."
IGP (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told PTI that BSF was on high alert along the West Bengal-Bangladesh border.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty has also been asked to keep his forces on high alert, state officials said.
