The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has cited various lapses on the part of the Goa police and their "failure" to dispose of arms dating back to the Portuguese era but lying unserviceable in the armoury. | |
| The CAG report, tabled at the state legislative assembly on Wednesday, mentions 859 firearms comprising 604 rifles of the Portuguese era, prior to 1961, which are partly serviceable or unserviceable lying idle since 1976. |

| The audit report reveals that due to undue delay in disposal of arms, the department is unable to trace the history sheets of the weapons. |

| "The unserviceable firearms remain piled up resulting in avoidable expenditure on its storage, safety and blocks up the armoury space". |

| The CAG has also pointed out that huge explosives seized during raids were lying undestroyed despite the court's permission. |
