Bina refinery capacity to be increased to 15 million tonne per annum

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar on Tuesday said the government will be the facilitator so that the industry can increase its turnover manifold, from the present level of Rs 7.86 lakh crore. Kumar said the government will give necessary incentives and infrastructure for the speedy growth.

The minister assured to provide the much-needed boost for the development of petroleum, chemical and petrochemicals investment regions (PCPIR) in the country in landlocked regions.

Kumar was speaking at the awards function organised by the Indian Chemical Council here on Tuesday.

Kumar said he agrees with the industry's suggestion that there should be proper coordination and cooperation between the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers and the ministry of petroleum and natural gas for adequate availability of feedstock.

Kumar said he and minister for petroleum and natural gas, Dharmendra Pradhan had met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and it was decided that the capacity of Bina refinery would be increased to 15 million tonne per annum from the present level of six million tonne per annum.

Kumar said the government would go the last mile, but asked the industry to be innovative so that whatever it produced is competitive and affordable. The minister also emphasised the need to focus on green technology.
