Cesc Receives 382 Duty Dispute Applications

The Customs and Excise Settlement Commission (CESC), in its first year of operation, has received 382 applications involving Rs 160 crore in duty disputes.

D S Solanki, CESC chairman, told Business Standard that Rs 90.77 crore was admitted by the applicants before the commission as duty liability in these cases.

Terming the response of exporters and importers as very encouraging, he said, in coming years the commission hoped to solve duty disputes involving over Rs 4,000 crore.
