The government has appointed R Chandrashekhar, Secretary, Department of Information and Technology, as the Telecom Secretary with effect from tomorrow.
According to official sources, Chandrashekhar will take charge as the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) from Friday.
A couple of weeks back he was given the additional charge of DoT Secretary following the appointment of PJ Thomas as the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).
Shashikant Sharma, who is currently the DG (Acquisitions), Ministry of Defence, will be the new Secretary of the Department of Information and Technology and he will also take charge on Friday.
Chandrasekhar, takes over at a time when the Telecom Ministry is passing through rough weather due to CBI investigating into allocation of 2G licences in January 2008 at 2001 prices.
