The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with the Andhra Pradesh government, is planning to establish a training institute to develop human resources for the emerging textile industry in the state.
 
A CII delegation led by M Laxminarayan, chairman, CII (southern region), met chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and finance minister K Rosaiah today to discuss the initiatives especially in skill upgradation area and the scope of future partnership with the sate government.
 
Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, Laxminarayan and G Vivekanand, chairman, CII (Andhra Pradesh), said the chief minister while complimenting their initiatives had asked the industry body to closely work with the government in bringing investments to the state besides focusing on training people in various skills to improve their employability in different sectors.
 
On the training side, CII delegation informed the chief minister of their readiness to start a training institute to impart skills required by the textile sector in Andhra Pradesh.
 
This apart, CII is planning to develop Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) under its skill development programme.
 
"We are also looking at adding skills required by other important sectors to these institutes," Narayan said, adding that at present CII undertook skill upgradation programme in 20 ITIs across the southern region.
 
According to him, CII (southern region) is planning to hold a series of conferences, including Seminfra 2006 in Chennai on August 3-4, on linkages and textile industry in Andhra Pradesh.
 
Among the other initiatives, CII was proposing to develop five more SME clusters in the south, he said.
