The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising a CEOs mission to the US from June 17 to June 22 to promote India in difficult times. The mission will be led by CII president Ashok Soota. A key concern of the CII delegation will be to focus on the economic impact of the travel advisories and related actions of the US administration on the domestic economy.
According to CII, this is unfortunate at a time when India has emerged as a high growth economy in spite of a global recession and economic relations between the US and India countries were on an upswing.
Members of the team include Arun Bharat Ram, chairman, CII International, Tarun Das, director-general, CII, Sudhir Deoras, managing director, Tata International Ltd, Y C Deveshwar, chairman, ITC, J J Irani, director, Tata Sons Ltd, Arun Nath Maira, chairman and director, Boston Consulting Group International Inc, B V R Mohan Reddy, chairman and managing director, Infotech Enterprises and Vijay Thadani, CEO, NIIT.
The CII delegation will meet senior representatives of the US administration and members of the US Congress and brief them on the latest situation in India and talk about the need to bring back on track Indo-US trade ties.
The CII delegation will also participate at the US-India Business Council Annual Meeting in Washington DC.
The delegation will have an opportunity to reach out to important think tanks such as the Brookings Institution, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Atlantic Council of the United States. An important highlight of the mission will be a two-day visit to Buffalo and Rochester, New York, where Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton will meet the delegation.
The focus of the visit will be on developing high-technology and bio-informatics partnerships with companies and institutes from Upstate New York.
In the US administration, the delegation would be meeting Samuel Bodman, deputy secretary, US department of commerce, Ambassador Alan Larson, under secretary for economic, business and agricultural affairs, US department of state, Ambassador Richard Haass, director policy planning staff, US department of state, John Cloud, special assistant to the president and senior director, international economics and James Moriarty, special assistant to the president and senior director National Security Council and Ambassador Jon Huntsman, deputy USTR.
