The Chhattisgarh Commercial Tax Department would launch a special drive from Monday to recover the due taxes in the state.
Under the drive, the businessmen would furnish the details sought by the department. The department would scrutiny the document to establish the tax liability. The department would take stringent action against the traders involved in tax evasion.
The Additional Chief Secretary (Commercial Tax), D S Misra held a high level meeting with the officials and issued the necessary instructions. He said that tax recovery to the tune of Rs 669 crore was outstanding as on June 30.
He asked the divisional deputy commissioners to collect the list of tax defaulters in their respective circles within two days.
Following the list, the commercial tax officers would knock at the premises of the traders due to pay tax to the government.
In a circular issued to the divisional level officials, it had been instructed to compile the circle-wise list of those businessmen, who had not filed the required tax statements for the financial year 2012-13. The list would be prepared within three days. Based on the list, the department officials would conduct the scrutiny of the documents and calculate the tax liabilities.
If the traders was due to pay, necessary recovery process would be initiated. The officials said strict action would be taken against those who had been violating the tax law. The department could even explore the possibility of cancelling the registration of such traders and firms.
