The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is in no hurry to form a committee to look into the issue of Telangana statehood. Even as the government has announced that it will evolve a mechanism to deal with the sensitive issue, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily today indicated that the formation of the mechanism or a committee in this regard might take some more time.

“The terms of reference are under preparation and not yet finalised,” Moily said here. He is also in charge of the party’s affairs in Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress-led UPA government was forced to issue a statement that the process to create a Telangana state would be initiated when Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhara Rao’s health deteriorated as he sat on fast. But, a large section of the party feels politically it would not be prudent to divide Andhra Pradesh.
