Two senior Congressmen from Karnataka today disputed the claim by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj that she was not responsible for induction of mining magnates — Reddy brothers — in the Yeddyurappa ministry.

“The statement by Sushma Swaraj is a stark lie and biggest joke of this century. Probably, she might be afraid that the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee report and CBI which is probing illegal mining might nail Reddy brothers and was trying to distance herself from them,” former Congress opposition leader in the Legislative Council V S Ugrappa and K C Kondaiah, MLC claimed at a press meet here.

“Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy during the legislature session held in Belgaum in January 2009 admitted he was the son of a constable, but now the family owns assets valued at Rs 50,000 crore. Reddy brothers are in the ministry due to blessings of Swaraj,” Ugrappa said.

Both the leaders reiterated their charge that several BJP leaders had a share in the illegal mining money.

Ugrappa wanted Swaraj to ask Yeddyurappa to seek CBI probe into illegal mining on the lines done by Andhra Pradesh.
