Congress demands CBI probe into mining scam

The opposition Congress members today demanded the state government to order an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) into the multi-crore mining scam, before the Orissa High Court asks it to do so.

This will save the prestige of the state assembly and the government, they pointed out.

However, the ruling party members defended the action of the state government which has ordered vigilance enquiry into the alleged scam while simultaneously conducting an administrative enquiry into the matter. They pointing out that the state government will not hesitate to co-operate in the enquiry if the Orissa High Court orders for it. The judgement of the High Court should be awaited in the matter.

The exchanges between the ruling and the opposition members follow the affidavit submitted by the CBI in Orissa High Court yesterday. The CBI expressed its readiness to conduct the enquiry into the mining scam if the state and the Central government provide it with the required facilities and infrastructure.
