The TDP-led alliance consisting of TRS, CPI and CPI(M) was leading 112 seats, while Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam was ahead in just 17 seats.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekahara Reddy, under whose leadership the Congress fought the elections, won from Pulivendla constituency in Kadapa district.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu won comfortably from Kuppam segment in Chittor district, while Chiranjeevi won from Tirupati by a margin of over 10,500 votes.  However, the megastar lost Palakollu, the second constituency he contested from in his native West Godavari district.
