The passage of the Electricity Bill 2003 by both Houses of Parliament has had an immediate fallout in Maharashtra. The state government is planning to defer corporatisation of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) by another six months.
The Bill, which is awaiting the presidential assent, will become an umbrella legislation and aims to usher in sweeping changes in the power sector including restructuring of electricity boards.
