The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to denounce the interim budget 2009-10 stating that it only depicts the rosy picture of the economy diverting attention from the real issue.

Even as large number of people are getting retrenched in factories and other organisations including the IT sector due to global meltdown, the budget has not attempted to address these issues. “The Centre wants to paint a rosy picture, but the real situation is very grim as reflected everyday”, Janardan Pati, secretary, CPM state office said.

He said, though the government claims bumper stock of foodgrains, it has been possible only due to the non-release of 73 percent stock in the above poverty line (APL) category.
