The Election Commission (EC) has announced dates for holding election to those Lok Sabha and assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh which are either vacant or elections to which were countermanded besides the programme for election to the 13 vacant legislative council seats.

The notification for the elections to the Lok Sabha and assembly seats would be issued on January 13, chief electoral officer Noor Mohammed said here yesterday.

The last date of filing nomination papers for the Lok Sabha and assembly byelections is January 20 next, scrutiny would be held on January 21 and the last date of withdrawal of nominations is January 23. Polling would be held, if necessary, on February 6.

Noor Mohammed said that the byelections will be held for Baghpat (Meerut) parliamentary seat and for assembly seats of Sahaswan (Budaun), Bilsi (Budaun), Maniram (Goraihpur) and Dibai (Bulandshahr) while election would be held for Shikarpur (Bulandshahr) assembly seat, the election of which had been countermanded.

The commission also announced election programme for 13 seats of the state legislative council which have fallen vacant on completion of the term of the members holding these seats on May 5 last year. The chief electoral officer said that the notification for these elections would be issued on January 20 next.

The last date for filing nomination papers is January 27 next.

Scrutiny would be held on January 30 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is January 28.

Polling, if necessary, would be held on February 6.
