The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a defamation suit against Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari after he accused BJP president Nitin Gadkari of owning a flat through proxy in Mumbai’s scam-tainted Adarsh Society.
Senior members of the BJP said they had asked Tiwari to either take back his allegations or come out with clear evidence supporting his claims.
Prakash Javadekar, the party spokesperson, said the legal notice should reach Tiwari by Saturday morning. After the scandal surrounding the Adarsh Society came to light, in which property rights were denied to Kargil war widows, the Congress Party asked former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan to make way for Prithviraj Chavan.
The BJP continued its attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sack Telecom Minister A Raja for his alleged role in the allocation of 2G spectrum scam.
“The telecom minister has been saying that all decisions on 2G spectrum allocation were taken after consulting the prime minister. We want to know if Raja is making the PM a co-accused in the scandal?” he said.
Javadekar further said the time had come for the prime minister to not only clear his stand on the allegations but also make it clear if he enjoys any authority in this government or not. “The prime minister should sack the telecom minister. The government should not be worried about the threats from DMK.”
