An ecological code for Commonwealth Games was released here today under which a series of measures are being taken by the city government as well as Games organising committee to offset carbon footprint left by the event.
Releasing the Code, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the CWG in Delhi will be the "cleanest ever" in the history of the Games and government as well as the organising committee are taking various measures like massive plantation of saplings, energy conservation and other steps.
Delhi 2010 Ecological Code targets to minimise the carbon footprint of the event by taking various environment friendly measures like waste management, energy efficiency and planting of saplings.
The document provides tangible targets for ensuring the event is carbon neutral with a focus on totally offsetting the carbon footprint.
Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi said the release of ecological code is part of their commitment to create a benchmark for other multi-disciplinary sporting events in the future.
Speaking at the function, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor said the ecological code will go a long way in enriching the Green Games concept.
He said the document has been diligently prepared to make the event a memorable sporting extravaganza.
