Engineering exports body EEPC India will promote India as a sourcing hub for high-tech items at technology fair Hannover Messe as the country looks to regain lost ground in major engineering exports markets like Germany and other European nations.

"To hard sell India as a sourcing hub, we have booked a big space of 350 square metres at Hannover Messe between April 7 to 14. In the near future, we may even have a full-fledged India Show there," EEPC India Chairman Anupam Shah said.

While overall engineering exports have staged a smart pick-up in the second quarter of 2013-14, shipments to Germany and other western markets like the US remain subdued.

Worryingly, engineering exports to Germany dropped by over eight per cent in the April-September period of the current fiscal, EEPC India said.

The European Union is among the top markets for the Indian engineering exports, which are the second largest contributor to the country's export basket.

"The Indian engineering industry has been participating consistently in Hannover Messe for last 20 years, underscoring the importance of Indo-German industrial cooperation," EEPC India Regional Director Rajat Srivastava said.
