Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, yesterday, asked Uttar Pradesh power corporation officials to explain the were frequent power-cuts in Rae Bareli and Amethi, the parliamentary constituencies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, respectively.
 
The minister, who visited some blocks in Rae Bareli and Amethi, held a meeting with senior officials in Unchahar NTPC power plant to review progress of the Accelerated Power Development and Reform project, Rajiv Gandhi village electrification programme and schemes related to energy conservation.
 
He questioned the Uttar Pradesh power department after locals complained about frequent power cuts.
 
"If during recent by-elections in Rae Bareli power could be supplied for 24 hours, why not now," he asked.
 
About politics being responsible for the power cuts in the VIP constituencies, Shinde said public should not suffer.
