Karnataka has proposed to observe 'Farmers' Day' from the next year to acknowledge the agrarian community's contribution towards development of the state.

"Farmers form the backbone of the nation. For decades, successive governments have been supporting farmers in various ways. In honour of the farming community's contribution, the government intends to observe Farmers' Day," chief minister H D Kumaraswamy told a farmers' convention here on Thursday.

The state cabinet will decide a date to observe the Farmers' Day, he added.
