The first report on impact of climate change, to be out by November 2010, will be on agriculture, the government today informed the Rajya Sabha.

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said expert groups have been appointed to study the impact of climate change on various sectors.

Agriculture is the first sector and the areas covered are North East, North West and Western Ghats, he said.

Six months after the publication of the first assessment report, the outcome of study on impact of climate change on Sunderbans would be released, he said.

Sunderbans is a sensitive area and the effect of climate change has been quite serious over the region, he said.

Besides, the government would come out with a comprehensive sector-wise report every year.

Ramesh said that in October 14 this year, the government had initiated a national action plan on climate change, in which 127 research organisations and 250 scientists are involved in preparing reports on effects of climate change on various states.
