Public sector Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has undertaken integrating its gas pipeline network in the country through capacity expansion and by adding new pipelines.

This is besides the capacity expansion of the Hazira-Bijapur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) pipeline, GAIL chairman and managing director Proshanto Banerjee told newsmen today. This marks the first step in the development of an integrated pipeline network across the country, he said.

An amount of Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for initial studies and preparation of detailed feasibility reports for the various pipelines, Banerjee said.

In the first phase of developing the national network, GAIL will develop the infrastructure and initiate the pre-project activities for the trunk systems in various states. At the same time, it will strengthen and integrate its existing network in various states and regions where it is currently operating and develop new ones if required.

The chairman said his company had started work on the 600-km LPG pipeline project from Vizag to Secunderabad. The pipeline will transport 1.164 million tonne of LPG, he said.

GAIL has also undertaken debottlenecking of the Pata petrochemical project for expansion of capacity from 160,000 to 210,000 tonne at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore.
