In a further softening of its stand on the VSNL controversy, the government today said it would prefer to resolve the spat with the Tatas over the decision to invest Rs 1,200 in Tata Teleservices through discussions.
Briefing the media after a 45-minute long discussion with disinvestment minister Arun Shourie in the presence of home minister L K Advani, communication minister Pramod Mahajan said the government would explore legal options only if the talks failed.
