Govt to ask sugar factories to pay advance

Karnataka government on Friday assured farmers' leaders that it would request sugar factories to pay Rs 2,000 as advance per tonne of sugarcane supplied.
A decision to this effect emerged at a meeting held by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda with representatives of farmers associations and sugar factories. Last year, the government had suggested a price of Rs 1,800 per tonne of sugarcane, Minister for Home and Transport R Ashoka, told reporters here.
