Karnataka primary and secondary education minister Basavaraja Horatti explained that "a feasibility study on the proposal will be conducted shortly. A final decision on merging the municipalities will be taken after examining the feasibility report."

The proposal to form the Greater Bangalore City Corporation was mooted last year to streamline the administration of the city and to ensure orderly growth.

The seven municipalities to be merged into the Greater Bangalore City Corporation are Bytarayanapura, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Krishnarajapuram, Yelahanka, Kengeri, Bommanahalli and Mahadevapura, the minister stated.
