Guj Governor seeks details of expenditure incurred on Modi's fast

A day after Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi demanded for a recall of the Gujarat Governor, Kamla Beniwal, the latter has on Monday sought from the state government the details of expenditure incurred during Modi's 3-day 'Sadbhavna' fast.

The Governor on Monday sent a letter to the state government asking the details of the expenses and procedures followed for its sanction by the state administration.The action from the Governor comes as a fallout of the representation from Maha Gujarat Janta Party (MJP) chief Gordhan Zadafia alleging misappropriation of public money by the government during Modi's three-day fast.

During September 17-19, 2011 Modi had sat on a fast for peace, unity and brotherhood under his 'Sadbhavana Mission' at the Gujarat university convention centre in Ahmedabad. Many national leaders and general public visited Modi during the three days. While the fast being a government-announced programme, the expenditure on snacks and food arranged for general public, security and hall rentals raised eye-brows of Modi's opponents. The Governor wrote a letter through her principal secretary Arvind Joshi to the additional chief secretary, General Administration Department on September 22 asking him to respond to the allegation made by Zadafia.

ACS is asked to give details of the process followed while sanctioning the expenditure. On Sunday state BJP had called for a massive rally (Maha Rally) in support of Modi and demanding recall of the Governor. Earlier also, Modi had demanded the recall of Governor due to the appointment of the state Lokayukta by the Governor. The Governor had appointed justice (Rtd) R A Mehta as Lokayukta, without consulting the council of ministers. Zadafia too has gone on an indicative 51-hour 'Samvedana' fast at Gandhinagar from Sunday onwards demanding handing over probe into allegations of massive corruption by the Modi government to the Lokayukta.
