Haryana will get an additional 64 mw following an agreement between the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (HVPN) and the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam for the purchase of power generated from the Nathpa Jhakri Hydro-electric Project in Himachal Pradesh.
The power will be evacuated to the Northern Grid through two double-circuit 400 kv lines. The agreement will be valid for 35 years.
The 1,500 mw (250x6) project is being constructed by the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam as a joint venture between the Centre and the Himachal Pradesh government. It is likely to start generating power in March.

According to a HVPN official, Himachal Pradesh will get 12 per cent of the power produced free as royalty.
Though, the cost of power is yet to be finalised by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, it is expected to cost Rs 2.70 per unit to bulk customers.
