Haryana to invest Rs 1,793 cr for power distribution

The Haryana government has drawn up an investment plan of Rs 1,793.95 crore for the current financial year to strengthen the power distribution system in the state.

Power minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said here that emphasis would be given on high voltage distribution in villages and urban localities for which a sum of Rs 590 crore has been earmarked.

There is also a plan to implement a pre-paid metering system in urban areas, in the first phase. The scheme also involves setting up of 83 new 33 KV substations, augmenting capacity of 35 existing substations and erecting associated lines of 33 KV level.

Besides, connections to people living below poverty line will be released under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna.

Surjewala said under the project of metering, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam plan to spend over Rs 100 crore.

A special plan of Rs 147.59 crore has been approved by the Centre under its Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme-II to strengthen power distribution system in 36 towns of the state.
