The Gujarat High Court on Friday quashed the interim bail of C R Patil, the prime accused in the multi-crore Diamond Jubilee Co-operative Bank case.

The HC directed Patil to surrender before Surat jail authorities on September 2. Patil's six-month interim bail expired on August 27.

The Diamond Jubilee Co-operative Bank went bust on August 29, 2002. This was mainly on account on indiscriminate granting of loans to Patil, who is also a prominent BJP leader, and others by bank authorities.

Criminal cases were registered against Patil and the other persons in connection with the Rs 56.76-crore scam. He was granted interim bail for six months by the Gujarat High Court in February 2004 after he gave an undertaking that he would sell off his various properties to repay the over Rs 50 crore he owed to the bank.

Meanwhile, Ahmedabad-based Shree Saumya Constructions, which had expressed willingness to purchase land and other properties owned by Patil, withdrew from the deal.

Patil's plea seeking regular bail, will be heard on September 3 by the High Court.
