Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa at the weekend inaugurated the Talent Development Centre here established by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
Yeddyurappa said the 21st century belonged to India and his government had accorded top priority to education, stepping up budgetary allocation during 2011-12 from 12 per cent to 25 per cent. The IISc has been allotted 1,500 acres at Challakere to establish its second campus outside Bangalore. The government has also sanctioned another 4,550 acres of land to Defence Research Development Organisation, Indian Space Research Organisation and Baba Atomic Research Centre at Challakere to establish their research units, he said.
Yeddyurappa also promised to sanction Rs 10 crore for the 1 Mw solar power unit at the Kudapura campus of IISc at Challakere.
The CM said Challakere will be future science city. ‘In 21st century when the world is looking at India, specialised institutions such as IISc should work to enhance the knowledge of younger generation, the future of the country,’ he said.
The institution would soon be surrounded by other eminent institutions of strategic importance such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Aeronautical Development Establishment, Defence Research and Development Organisation and ISRO coming up on 4,250 acres.
