The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Alumni Association today rejected the new formula proposed for admission to the IITs.
"The top 20th percentile criteria for school boards and 2013 to be the beginning year of the new proposal stands rejected because such patchwork solutions, taken in haste to meet deadlines by the HRD ministry, are contrary to the objectives set out by the ministry. They are also prejudicial to the interests of the present Class XII students and those from rural India, where school education is in shambles," said a statement from the Association.
It said they’d now wait for the July 4 meeting of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT) Council and their decision on how to proceed with their entrance examination. "We will also wait for the decision of the (IIT) Senates, because unless the decision of the IIT Council gets approved by the Senates, it does not attain finality," said Somnath Bharti, president, IIT Delhi Alumni Association. He said they wanted status quo till 2014 and no change implemented in the existing admission pattern before that.
