India and Italy will work together on infrastructure development in the country. The two countries will join hands in specific areas like construction and management of highways, railways systems, metro rail, irrigation and sewer networks, construction and management licensing for ports and airport systems.

An 18-member delegation headed by Pietro Lunardi, Italy's minister of transport and infrastructure today participated in a seminar in the capital on Indo-Italy cooperation in the infrastructure sector, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

"My visit is a continuation of the process of cooperation started by the President of Italy. It is up to the industrialists to follow up the possibilities of collaboration and give shape to the future. We will provide complete support for this new intense period in our relationship," said Lunardi.

Lunardi also invited Indian businessmen to visit Italy to give further fillip to the relationship. Marco Montagna, president of the infrastructure commission of confindustria, said the minister's presence in meeting confirmed the complete support of the Italian government for encouraging new Italian initiatives in India.

Montagna said "infrastructure projects being developed in India provide an important business opportunity for Italian companies that can contribute their expertise and know how. We are now ready for a further step in the cooperation between the two countries."
