The postal department of Vijayawada region has set a target to reach 1.4 million insurance policies by the end of the current financial year. The region, comprising Krishna, Khammam, West Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts, has already collected 1 million policies.
This year, the region set a target of 450,000 policies and had already crossed the 300,000-mark by the end of September 2010, said post master general M Sampath.
He said they had strengthened the logistic post network in the last two years and would further expand it to handle containers above 30 kg. The Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam regions have proposed to introduce direct logistic services to Vijayawada. “This would benefit industries like footwear, paints and pharmaceutical,” Sampath said.
