Noted scientist K Kasturirangan today resigned his Rajya Sabha seat.
His resignation comes in the backdrop of reports that he is likely to be appointed as a Member in the Planning Commission.
Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan announced that the resignation of Kasturirangan, a nominated Member, was accepted by the Chairman today.
He was nominated to the Upper House in August 2003 and was to retire next month.
Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia had yesterday said that Kasturirangan was yet to be appointed in the Plan panel formally because he had to resign from the Rajya Sabha first.
