Amidst commotion, speaker said: ‘The motion is accepted’.

The business of confidence vote in Karnataka Assembly yesterday was over in 10 minutes in the midst of pandemonium and uproar created by MLAs.

The House, which met for the trial of strength as directed by Governor H R Bhardwaj, met at 10 AM and adjourned at 10.10 AM. The Assembly records show the Chief Minister moving in the midst of commotion the one-line motion.

“This House expresses confidence in the Council of Ministers headed by B S Yeddyurappa.” The commotion continues and Speaker K G Bopaiah reads out the motion and puts it to vote.

And again in the midst of commotion the Speaker says: “The motion is accepted”.

The records note that “the motion is accepted by voice vote.” And then the Speaker adjourns the House sine die.

Bhardwaj and Opposition parties in the state have contended that the voice vote in the Assembly was not valid since there was no vote by division.
