Justice Mohit Shah takes oath as Chief Justice of Bombay HC

Justice Mohit Shantilal Shah today took oath as the 39th Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

He was sworn in by Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayana at a function at Raj Bhavan this morning.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council Shivajirao Deshmukh and several judges of the Bombay High Court were present on this occasion.

Anil Dave, the previous Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, was elevated to Supreme Court in April. Since then Justice J N Patel was the acting Chief Justice here.

Justice Patel has been now appointed as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

Born on September 9, 1953 at Vijapur, Gujarat, Justice Shah obtained degree in political science from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and secured a Gold Medal at the LL.B. (Special) Examination in 1976.

He then obtained LLM degree while practising in Gujarat High Court.

Justice Shah was elevated as Additional Judge on the Bench of the High Court of Gujarat on September 18, 1995 and became the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court on December 24, 2009.
