Upset over his daughter being denied bail in the 2G spectrum case, DMK chief M Karunanidhi today flew in here to meet Kanimozhi at the Tihar Jail.

This is the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's second visit to Delhi in a month to meet his daughter, lodged in jail since May 20 after the Special CBI court ordered her arrest.

Karunanidhi arrived this morning and drove straight to a five-star hotel where he will take some rest before meeting Kanimozhi at Tihar in the evening.

Karunanidhi is accompanied by his wife Rajathi Ammal, who is currently camping in the capital. Kanimozhi's husband Aravindan is also expected to join them.

DMK sources said Karunanidhi decided to visit his daughter at the jail immediately after the Supreme Court refused bail to her yesterday.

"He was visibly upset and decided to come to Delhi immediately. He will be meeting Kanimozhi at the Tihar Jail in the evening," a source said.

It was not clear whether Karunanidhi would call on Congress chief Sonia Gandhi or any Congress leaders would meet him at the hotel.

During his May 23-24 visit to the capital to meet Kanimozhi, Karunanidhi did not meet Gandhi, but senior Congress leaders and ministers P Chidambaram and Ghulam Nabi Azad met him.

Kanimozhi's arrest has led to a strain in the DMK-Congress alliance.

Karunanidhi had earlier this month blamed the Centre for his daughter’s arrest.
