Meanwhile, KRCL is confident that the Skybus technology will get the approval of the central government and claims that it already has two Indian operators to finance the system.

KK Gokhale, managing director (MD) of KRCL said that the Goa government's decision to opt for the monorail in the State would not affect the Skybus project.

"We would have loved to start the project first in Goa, but these are political decisions and will have no bearing on the prospects of the Skybus technology," he said.

KRCL has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Indian companies, which will finance the Skybus technology. Gokhale is confident that the Urban Development Ministry will approve the project within a couple of months.

Gokhale, who is skeptic about the viability of the Monorail project in a small state like Goa asked, "Will there be enough traffic to make the Rs 1000 crore project financially viable?"
