KSRTC Mysore bus stand to go hi-tech

A Rs 8-crore proposal has been made to revamp the Mysore mofussil bus stand of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) into a hi-tech hospital.

The proposal has already been sent for approval under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

With the Bangalore satellite bus terminal on the Mysore Road as the model, the proposal covers modern commuter amenities like accommodation, refreshments and multi-level parking.

"It will be an 'all-in-one' bus stand," KSRTC director (safety and vigilance) M A Saleem said on Monday in Mysore.

The KSRTC also has proposals for a well-planned out city bus transport system in the background of the Bangalore experience, where 2.8 million private vehicles were on the road, creating traffic bottlenecks. "Mysore is a growing city. The expressway link with Bangalore is attracting more industries and people into Mysore," he said.

The director said two terminals in Kuvempunagar and Sathagalli in Mysore and two depots at Nanjangud have been proposed. One depot is coming up in Sathagalli extension. The corporation has also proposed to take employees to IT and other company doorsteps.

To ease any parking congestion at the Mofussil Bus Stand, resulting from vacating the land at the adjacent Wellington Lodge after a court order, KSRTC has proposed to build a multi-level parking facility on the 1.25 acre land to be acquired opposite the People's Park, divisional controller Ashok Kumar said.

The 10 days of 2006 Dasara had fetched an additional revenue of Rs 1.76 crore to the KSRTC.

By pressing an additional 360 buses and operating 4,516 trips, it had carried another 593,121 passengers. Elaborate arrangements are underway for the present Dasara anticipating 20 per cent more visitors, Saleem told Business Standard.

To meet the anticipated pressure on the transport system, the KSRTC will be pressing 360 more buses into service from October 12 to October 21.

In addition to the present 489 trips, one every two minutes, it will run 240 more trips. Buses will operate to the eight Dasara cultural programme centres in the evenings.
