The recently-formed 15-party group led by the Left parties has given a call for a two-day Bihar bandh from today against the continuation of Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav in office.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has also decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Yadav government as soon as the Bihar assembly session begins on June 23.
These decisions were taken at the recently concluded meeting of the CPI state council. The meeting was attended by party general secretary A B Bardhan and secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan besides the partys state unit leaders.
The meeting expressed concern over the way state governor A R Kidwai was delaying the granting of sanction to prosecute Yadav for his alleged involvement in the fodder scam. The state council took exception to the move of the Governor. It was felt that the Governors move is generating tension in the state, Anajaan said yesterday. The governor is reported to have asked the advocate-generals opinion on the issue, and since he is away on a holiday, the governor has withheld his decision. Left leaders say that the bandh has been called not only to protest against the alleged culprits of the fodder scam alone.
All developmental works in the state have come to a halt and even some of the central schemes have not been properly implemented.
The two-day bandh will be followed by a state-wide satyagraha in which Left workers will throng jails at all the levels. However, the final decision on the date of the satyagraha will be taken at a meeting of all the 15 parties on June 18.
