Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday launched development and public welfare schemes worth Rs 6,035 crore on the occasion of the 5th death anniversary of Kanshi Ram.
Kanshi Ram was the founder of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the state and the mentor of Mayawati, under whose stewardship the latter rose to the position of the chief minister multiple times.
Mayawati launched and laid the foundation of a total of 484 schemes after paying homage to him. Several programmes were organised on the occasion in the presence of a large number of BSP supporters and party activists.
She said Kanshi Ram’s contribution towards the upliftment of the country’s marginalised sections could never be forgotten, who took up the unfinished social agenda of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. He had founded BSP on April 14, 1984 to galvanise the dalits, backwards and socially weak sections.
