Concerned that the ongoing power crisis in the state may affect the party's prospects in the upcoming local bodies elections, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday asked Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to take the lead in resolving the issue.

"People from different parts of the state have been complaining about the increased hours of load-shedding. This is the time of children's examinations. Ordinary farmers are also bearing the brunt of the load-shedding. Chief Minister Chavan should take the lead in resolving the crisis," MPCC president Manikrao Thakre said.

He said it is being reported that Maharashtra's share of coal from the Western India coal field has been given to Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, the generation and distribution companies have complained that Maharashtra is getting poor quality coal. "Careful management is the need of the hour," Thakre said.

He appealed Chavan to take the lead in resolving the issue and ensure that the state gets uninterrupted power supply. The Power portfolio is handled by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who belongs to the NCP.
