As Namma Metro, Bangalore’s very own metro, plans to launch its services by April, over 150 personnel from the organisation have completed their four-month-long training in various operations of the transport system at the Delhi Metro Training School here.

The 153 professionals, including station controllers, train operators, section engineers, junior engineers and maintainers, underwent training in custom made training modules.

The training modules included sessions on train and station operation, signalling, telecommunication, automatic fare collection gate operation and rolling stock maintenance, DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

The people were presented certificates on Saturday by Delhi Metro Director (Operations) Raj Kumar after undergoing training for the past four months in Delhi. Metro operations in Bangalore, the second city in the country to get the new age transport system, is expected to start in April.

Trial runs are currently on and will be completed by the end of February after which the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety will be approached for his mandatory safety certificate for launching of services on the Byappanahalli to M G Road segment.

The training session of these professionals had begun with a batch of 82 station controllers / train operators in August last year.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had also imparted training to some Bangalore Metro engineers in 2008, Dayal said, adding that executives from Mumbai Metro Rail and Jaipur Metro have also taken training at the Shastri Park Training Institute, as this training school is the only one of its kind in the entire country.
