A high-powered trade delegation from Nigeria on Wednesday met a cross-section of corporates in Bangalore in an effort to seek ICT investment in rural telephony, design and manufacture of hardware/software systems.
 
Addressing the first Nigeria-India Business and Investment Forum here in Bangalore jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) on Wednesday, Mustafa Bello, executive secretary and CEO, NIPC said that Nigeria is looking for investments to cut down on its dependence on oil sector.
 
The country, to catch up with the world, is seeking technical training and development of human resources in ICT sector, he added.
 
Nigeria, in addition to ICT, is offering investment opportunities in banking, finance and insurance, oil and gas, transport and aviation, tourism, agriculture and, agro and allied industries, solid mineral and mining, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, power and energy and manufacturing.
 
To facilitate investments, a one-stop shop is being established with the NIPC as a nodal agency by January 2006, to provide investment solutions for entrepreneurs, said Bello.
 
T V Sivakumar, resident representative, Exim Bank of India at Bangalore said that the bank has got two engagements in Nigeria in sectors like poultry and sugar industry.
 
In his presentation on 'Focus Africa: Role and Function of Exim Bank,' Sivakumar said bank was willing to assist entrepreneurs on financing programmes, research and analysis and advisory services.
 
Vinay Deshpande, past Chairman, CII Karnataka said CII has facilitated several trade relations between India and Africa. Nigeria offers plenty of opportunities for Indian investors in many sectors, he said.
 
Nigerian delegates comprising senior government officials, CEOs of NIPC, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), NEPZA, Banks and Financial Institutions of Nigeria participated in the event.
