NTPC-BHEL project site to be named after YSR

The project site of NTPC-BHEL joint venture at Mannavaram village in Chittoor district would be named ‘YSR Puram’ in memory of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Chief minister K Rosaiah has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard. Reddy worked hard for getting the project to Andhra Pradesh, overcoming stiff competition from other states.

Union minister for heavy industries and public enterprises Vilasrao Deshmukh has written to chief minister Rosaiah agreeing to the proposal.

State invites industrialists from UAE Chief minister K Rosaiah on Thursday invited industrialists from the UAE to invest in Andhra Pradesh as there are opportunities in ports, airports and petrochemical projects.

He was talking to Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, minister of Foreign Trade, UAE at Secretariat.

Andhra Pradesh recorded an average annual growth rate of nearly 10 percent on its gross state domestic product during 2003-08, he said.

The state is leader in paper, cement, pharma and granite industries and second in textiles. Food processing, engineering industries and biotechnology, semiconductor, aerospace and precision tools are emerging, the chief minister said.

RAK Cements, an UAE project, was successfully implemented in Peddapuram in East Godavari district. Other UAE projects include ANRAK, VANPIC, the Hyderabad Economic City and airport at Ongole, he added.
