OC yet to provide accreditation to majority of medical force

With less than 11 days to go for the Commonwealth Games, the Organising Committee is yet to provide accreditation to majority of the specialised medical workforce to be deployed for the sporting extravaganza.

Of the total 1,882 dedicated members identified to be part of the specialised medical workforce for the Games, only 800 have been accredited till now.

The official documents for availing accreditation to doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, volunteers, massage therapists have been submitted to the OC since June 30. More than 1,000 medical workforce are yet to get their identity card, sources said.
   
They said if they are not given the accreditation they will not be able to enter the Games venues.
   
The total 1,882 dedicated members identified as part of the specialised medical workforce include 386 doctors, 262 nursing staff, 103 physiotherapists from the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Jamia University and Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, 95 message therapists sourced from the Government of Kerala and 179 medical students as volunteers.
   
The mega sporting event is scheduled from October 3-14.
   
Sources said nearly Rs five crore have been spent on medical equipment, upgrading three designated hospitals, furniture, general items, consumables, medicines, and development of polyclinics etc.
   
Along with three designated hospitals (G B Pant Hospital, JPN Apex Trauma Centre and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital), one polyclinic has been set up at the Games Village, medical centres at all stadiums, competition and training venues.
   
First aid posts for spectators were also set up at competition venues besides providing round-the-clock cover at the main press centre and international broadcasting centre at Pragati Maidan.
